The sub-tattvas are simply a division of each tattva (element) into a sub-element. There are far more combinations, and the idea with starting on the primary ones is really a matter of simplicity to learn the basics. If and when you feel the inclination to explore other aspects, go ahead and start.

Why are the sub-tattvas a more advanced training? I have a year of experience with the primary tattvas and am considering moving on to the sub-tattvas. Do you have any recommendations? What should I be concerned or careful before attempting to make contact in these realms?

Yes, it is possible to use the tattva cards for meditational purposes only. You do not need to practice any kind of ceremonial magic or use any magical paraphernalia. The exercise I offer on this website is devoid of specific requirements as proposed by the Golden Dawn adherents. As such, it can be adapted to your own practices and beliefs. The tattva symbols, as very simple representations of the magical elements, provide an easy way to practice a meditation or ‘astral scrying’. The basic technique can be used for any symbol, including Tarot cards.

When exercising the tattvas, is it neccessary to know the fundamentals of ceremonial? Can one use tattva-cards solely for meditational purposes and not be engage in ceremonial and magickal periphanelia?? Also are their any preliminaries before entering into the Akasa tattva (spirit)?

How is it possible to keep the breath in one nostril for 5 gharis (2 hours)?

What about sunset, is the course of the breath reversed? moonrise?

some years ago attended a tai chi class.it was horrible.the teacher was rude agressive and dismissive of anyone he considered not worthy to teach.the class was run like a dictatorship .there was agroup system where pupils where treated badly to see if they were the right stuff.they where very closed in.no mater what i did i was allways wrong.i was never rude or disrespectfull to anyone.yet i was made to feel id don something wrong.many people came many more left.they where labled failures.i got so fed up with the whole thing.and felt there was no point to this maddness..i got the courage to leave.to be honest on reflection ifeel very stupid for staying so long in such an awfull group.and realise the leavel of control and manipulation was extreme.the thing is from the very begining my feeling about this group was uneasy.i should have trusted my self and left and saved my self alot of trouble thanks

To ‘safely’ summon a guide you only need to request a guide appear. I don’t advocate all the banishing and testing of guides. Often you will be advised to perform banishing rituals (such as the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram) and then test a guide with various God names (the most ‘powerful’ names and words) that you know, with the idea being that a ‘bad’ guide will either depart or reveal themselves to be ‘bad’ if you do these things. However, if from the beginning you accept that you are in control of the situation, and using it as a learning experience (to learn whatever it is that you need to learn), then you will discover that it is unnecessary to be so clinical and antiseptic. If in doubt, learn to work with your Higher Self first, and then work with your Higher Self as guide and you cannot go ‘wrong’.

As quoted at the beginning of the article, the old saying goes that “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” Essentially this means that when the time is right (for the student – but the same could be said for the teacher), an event, or series of events, will lead the student to meeting a ‘teacher’. Of course, in modern times it is possible to search the internet and ‘teachers’ offering courses or lessons (paid or for free), and covering many different traditions. Likewise, there are a variety of occult magazines that contain advertisements for occult and magical schools and teachers.
