24/1/2007 - Recently I have been asked by various authors and distributors if I will review their books or link to them from Magical Path. I am willing to do this in some cases which I will outline below:
- I am selective about what I read these days. It isn't that I can't learn something new from most books I choose to read, but rather I am comfortable learning what I need to learn through experiential practices. As such I only read books that personally appeal to me. You can gauge some of my interests from reading my articles and other reviews on this site, as well as from some of the links from Magical Path to websites I like or find useful.
- In general I prefer to read an entire book before reviewing it, not just excerpts. For some books, excerpts may provide enough of an idea as to the contents and allow me to give a reasonable review (such as the case of "The Rune Primer" review - much of text being similar style of research and detail of the individual runes).
- I would prefer to read a printed book over an e-text copy. I do enough reading of information on the computer, so if you feel my website and a review of your book will assist in promotion than you may consider the cost of mailing me a copy of the book a "payment for services rendered". However, keep in mind my first point above, and contact me to see if I feel inclined or have the time to commit to reading your book.
- I am not interested in reviewing (or reading) Left Hand Path or "Vampire Cult" type books. The works that I would suggest people read to familiarise themselves with the "Dark Arts" are mostly accessible online for free if one has the inclination to look. My preference is for works which defy classification of Left Hand or Right Hand Path and have a more earthy organic flavour recognising the necessary balance of light and dark energies, rather than remaining polarised into the extremes. Again, check out my articles and other reviews if you are unsure of what Magical Path is about.
